What is backflow? Backflow is a reversal of the normal flow of a liquid or gas. A backflow preventer or backflow preventer assembly is shown below and these devices prevent non potable water from entering the potable water supply and makes water safe to use. Without the use of backflows, contaminants could enter the water supply causing us to get sick and harming the environment around us.

Water purveyors require that annual inspections of these backflow devices occur.
